Wakefield is the main city in a metropolitan borough, which has a moderate population of around 80 thousand people. The Wakefield borough is made up of more than 40 towns and villages, which include breathtaking countryside and historical woodlands.

Wakefield has a long and well documented history, and even received a mention in the Doomsday Book, which was then known as “Wachefield” and was given the name of the “Merrie City” in the Middle Ages – a name that has successfully stuck as a result of the amount of pubs and clubs in the area.

The city of Wakefield is hugely proud of its historical heritage, with the beautiful ruins of a 15th century castle that has recently been excavated and is open to visitors to come and see, as well as a Cathedral in the heart of the city which can be dated back much more than five hundred years. Around the elegant city there are also many other heritage centres and also interesting museums, including a museum of mining based on the actual site of the UK's oldest working mine.

Wakefield is a busy, modern city, with impressive shopping facilities and an energetic nightlife, which attracts a vast amount of tourists at the weekend. There are international, cosmopolitan restaurants, stylish and sleek clubs and pubs, and a Grade II listed theatre. The city also holds the Westgate Run, quite famous for being a 500-yard pub crawl all the way up the Westgate road.

Already underway there are £100 million plans for the development of a new art gallery, which shall be named after the sculpture, Barbara Hepworth as part of the Regeneration Scheme for the Waterfront; as well as plans to totally change the city centre and its district markets. There is plenty to do in the city with five leisure centres, the Superbowl, which is great for adults and kids of all ages, popular go-karting tracks, as well as a dozen golf courses and a fantastic variety of water sports at the Pugneys Country Park.

The area has two train stations and a regular bus service in and out of the city, and is well placed for the Leeds-Bradford airport, making travelling around the city hassle free.

We aim to provide you with simple, easy to understand legal information, with no legal jargon, or marketing ploys.
