Birmingham is Britain’s second largest city behind London, and is situated right in the centre of England. Birmingham had proudly earned its title of “the city of a thousand trades” because of its huge production manufacturing different things. Birmingham is still an important manufacturing area today, making among other things, Cars, Jewellery and the world famous Cadburys Chocolate.
In the centre of the city is the International Convention Centre, which hosts meetings of world leaders in politics and in industry. The ICC is also home of the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the hall is beautiful and elegant, known for its wonderful sounds.
The National Indoor Arena is also close by, which hosts shows and TV spectaculars, as well as many international sporting events.
Birmingham boasts a wealth of impressive architecture in its old buildings, around the centre of the city. The Town Hall is definitely not one to be missed, built in the 1830’s it is an amazing sight of Victorian design, inspired by classical Roman temples it has an amazing 40 Corinthian columns of Anglesey marble. The Huge hall has one of the finest organs in the country, and can seat a maximum of 2000 people easily.
Birmingham has a fantastic Night-Life, whatever your taste, there is something for everyone. You can see “West End” productions at the Alexandra Theatre, or see the latest performances at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, The National Indoor Arena and the NEC Arena stage concerts by internationally known rock and pop groups. And of course here, there is Opera, Birmingham Symphony Orchestra or the Ballet to choose from to name but a few.
