Owning a business carries with it certain legal obligations. The owner of a business must deal with these or hire a person who will handle the legal aspects of the business. Many obligations relate to health and safety.

A business must have a safe workplace, particularly where the business has empoyees as an employer must provide a safe and healthy environment for all employees. Maintaining a safe workplace can include taking steps to prevent accidents, stress at work, illness and bullying.  A health and safety inspector will regularly check a business' legal documentation regarding health and safety. You can expect to be audited at least once a year. The business owner or safety manager should conduct annual risk assessments to ensure that health and safety measures continue to be adequate and appropriate.
