Copyright Licence Agreement

A Copyright Licence Agreement permits the use of copyrighted material by a third party. Copyright protects works and materials created by a business from exploitation by third parties without permission. Copyright is not the same as a trademark and protection arises automatically over copyrighted works when they are created. The Copyright symbol is a C with a circle around it ©. Use of this symbol allows others to know that your material is copyrighted and that it is therefore protected against use without your permission.

If you are not the creator of a product or piece of work, you will need to use the Copyright Licence Agreement to obtain permission to use the copyrighted material. There are times when you can use copyrighted work without permission, for example, if you give credit to the owner of the work wherever you repeat any of it. However, this is not always appropriate and a more general permission is often sought.

The Copyright Licence Agreement allows you to clearly state how much of the copyrighted work the third party has permission to use or copy and for what period of time and in what circumstances. In this way, you can retain control over how your copyrighted works are used. The Copyright Licence Agreement should always be used for such arrangements to provide certainty and avoid disputes over the extend of use being granted.

Using our Copyright Licence Agreement

The Copyright Licence Template can be used to enable you to exploit and protect your copyrighted material. You can elect to change certain aspects of the document to grant different degrees of rights and uses. In a business this template is often used for photocopying, scanning, broadcasting, and printing permissions.
